Hakhel: Children, Unite!

| An address to children on Sukkos in the year of Hakhel:
During the year of Hakhel, Jews make every effort to assemble together. Jewish children are
specifically included in this Mitzvah in the Torah, and you must serve as an example to others.
Even though the Holy Temple is not yet rebuilt, you must prepare yourselves in similar fashion,
gathering to hear words of Torah and resolving to implement Torah's teachings.

Take advantage of your time as Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv; I hear that you will become Chief
Rabbi of Israel within the next two years. If I can convince you that it’s for you, it will most
probably materialize — but you have to truly want it.

| Mishna, Tractate Mikvaos: If a needle is placed on the step leading down to a Mikva, and a
person passes a wave over the needle; the needle becomes ritually pure.
A needle is used to stitch two fabrics together to create a garment. Spiritually speaking, the
task of every Jew is to connect — to sew — physicality to G-dliness.
